Japanese Diplomat Rescued by Brucejack Gold Mine Workers
A Japanese diplomat on a solo cycling trip from Seattle, Washington to Fairbanks, Alaska found himself in need of help when he lost control on Highway 37. Fortunately, workers from the Brucejack gold mine were there to come to his aid.
Quick Thinking and Careful Actions
The diplomat, who remains unnamed, had no one aware of his exact location when the accident occurred on the wet bridge grating. Luckily, a Brucejack coach bus happened to pass by and notice his distress.
Upon encountering the injured cyclist, Senior Safety Advisor Travis Beebe sprang into action, providing first aid and orchestrating the move to safety with the help of a Procon Mining employee and others. The group decided to head to the Wildfire camp, which was 20 minutes away and offered better access to medical help.
Expert Medical Assistance
Knipple Advanced Care Paramedic Bruce Young flew to the clinic at Wildfire to stabilize the injured diplomat before airlifting him to Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace for further treatment. Thanks to the prompt and efficient actions of the team involved, the diplomat was able to return home after being discharged on Saturday, June 8.

Beebe expressed his gratitude for the support and teamwork that made the successful rescue possible. Without the quick thinking of individuals like John Sheehan and the use of resources provided by Newmont, including the chopper, medical personnel, and clinic, the outcome could have been much different.
