Trichy: Unidentified burglars decamped with 11 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth 1.7 lakh from a locked house at Valavanthankottai on the outskirts of Trichy city. M Sathya, 40, a resident of Sugam garden in Valavanthankottai near Thiruverumbur, in her complaint stated that her husband Murali is serving in the Indian Army. On March 29, she locked the house around 7 pm and visited her mother’s house at Keela Kalkandarkottai. Sathya returned to her house around 5 pm on May 30. On her return, she found that the side gate of the house was damaged and broken. Locks placed on inner doors were also broken. Around 11 sovereigns of gold jewellery placed in the steel almirah were missing. Police added that unidentified burglars had also stolen 300g of silver articles. On information, Thuvakudi police personnel and fingerprint experts visited the house and collected evidence. A sniffer dog was also pressed into service. Further investigations are underway.
