MUMBAI: A 28-year-old domestic worker, Prabhunarayan Mishra, was arrested by the Juhu police for allegedly stealing two gold bricks, each weighing one kilogram, from his employer’s residence between May 10 and June 20. The stolen gold is estimated to be worth around Rs one crore.
Identifying the suspect was made possible through technical support, leading to the apprehension of Mishra in his native village in Madhya Pradesh. He had fled the city five days after the theft on June 20.
The complaint was filed on July 10 by a 76-year-old businessman from Juhu, who noticed the disappearance of the gold bricks from his bedroom cupboard. Mishra, who had been working at the businessman’s flat for eight years, seized the opportunity to steal the gold when his employer forgot to secure the safe. During the investigation, it was revealed that Mishra continued to work for five days after the theft before leaving his employment, using a fabricated excuse.
