Over 250 phones and 22 gold chains were reported stolen during Ganesh immersion in Mumbai, leading to the arrest of eight suspects.
Mumbai: During the Ganesh immersion in the city, over 250 phones and approximately 22 gold chains were reported stolen. Exploiting the large crowds gathering at popular locations like Lalbaug, Girgaum Chowpatty, Juhu, and Dadar Chowpatty, several gangs from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and other parts of the state took advantage of the situation. The police have taken action by arresting eight suspects.

The police were able to reunite 38 missing children between two to seventeen years old at Girgaum Chowpatty, with the help of the control room, watchtower, and public announcement system. Nineteen adults who were reported missing were also reunited, including spouses and other relatives.
Additionally, around 22 gold chains or Mangal sutras and 60 mobile phones went missing during the Ganpati Festival. The incidents mainly occurred during the immersion day when prominent idols like Lalbaugh Cha Raja and Chinchpokhli Cha Chintamani were being taken to Girgaum Chowpatty. Some individuals faced suffocation due to the crowd and fell, but were promptly assisted by the police.
On the day of the Visarjan, more than 30,000 policemen and 40 DCP rank officers were deployed for security measures. While no chain snatching incidents were reported at Girgaum Chowpatty, 99 phone losses were reported at the D B Marg police station and 89 at V P Road police station.
The police also took action against three individuals who illegally flew drones without permission, most of whom were social media influencers.
