Inspiring Community Giving
{KXLG – Watertown, SD} Today’s “good news” story is more for inspiration than recognition. Dale Valberg would rather not have publicity surrounding his “unique” gift to the Watertown Area Community Foundation of a 1977 Krugerrand gold coin. Instead, Valberg wishes to use it to inspire others to give back to their community.
According to the Foundation, “The Krugerrand, made of 22-karat gold, contains one troy ounce of pure gold. In the 1970s, it was the go-to gold investment coin because it offered an easy, tangible way to own gold. While the Krugerrand is technically a legal currency, it doesn’t have a printed face value. Its value is tied to the amount of gold it contains and the current gold market price.”
Foundation’s Perspective
Executive Director of the Watertown Area Community Foundation, Cammie Mengwasser, was live in KXLG studios to tell us more…
The board accepted the donation and even found a private collector…
Encouraging More Giving
The core focus is to inspire others…
The foundation can accept a wide variety of “gifts…”
Mr. Valberg received the coin in 1982 from his employer in recognition of his sales achievements. Recently, he found the time was right to pay it forward. His story has a ripple effect, just like your actions can tell a story that creates a ripple effect of positive charity for others to follow.
Additional Insight
By highlighting Dale Valberg’s selfless act of giving back to the community, it serves as a reminder to others that generosity can have a lasting impact beyond the immediate donation. Encouraging a culture of giving can lead to a chain reaction of positive contributions that benefit society as a whole.
