Two houses in Thatchanallur were targeted by burglars who made off with a total of 36 sovereigns of gold. The first victim was financier Vellaikannu, 64, of Nalmeippar Nagar near Thatchanallur, and his family. They were away in Tirupathi for prayers when the burglary occurred. The burglars managed to steal 31 sovereigns of gold ornaments and ₹60,000 from their home. It was a similar situation for Poolpandian, another resident of Nalmeippar Nagar, whose house was robbed while he was attending a relative’s wedding. In this case, 5.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments were taken. Cases have been registered by the Thatchanallur police in relation to both incidents.
