Adventurous treasure hunters are currently embarking on a thrilling quest in the Northeast to uncover a golden statue that holds a significant fortune.
The Hunt for Project Skydrop
The treasure hunt, known as “Project Skydrop,” involves locating a hidden golden statue in the woods that could potentially reward the finder with $25,000 just for discovering it. Additionally, the statue is engraved with a code that unlocks a Bitcoin wallet, offering the possibility of an even larger life-changing prize.
Co-creator of the project, Jason Rohrer, shares his excitement stating, “Every morning, I get up and check, ‘Oh my gosh, the treasure’s still there. It hasn’t been taken yet.’ And then finally one day we’re going to get up and look and it will be gone.”
The Search Area and Clues
The statue is believed to be hidden somewhere on public forest land within a 500-mile radius that covers parts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and Connecticut. In order to participate in the hunt, individuals must pay a $20 entry fee to receive aerial photo clues leading to the statue’s location. These clues are provided daily, gradually reducing the search area until it narrows down to just one foot.
Currently, approximately 2,000 people are actively engaged in the search for the treasure, utilizing various tools such as drones and technology to assist in their quest.
The Puzzle-Solving Challenge
According to Rohrer and co-creator Tom Bailey, while technology can aid in the search, successfully finding the statue will ultimately require strong puzzle-solving skills. Rohrer emphasizes, “I think in the end, it’s just gonna take a keen eye to look at these aerial photographs…figuring out where that puzzle piece fits on the surface of the Earth is gonna be the real key to success here.”
Half of the entry fee money from Project Skydrop goes into an additional cash bounty, which increases as more participants join the hunt. As of the latest update, the bounty had exceeded $25,000.
