Team USA clinched the gold medal in the men’s 4×400-meter relay at the Paris Games by setting an Olympic record time.
The quartet of Christopher Bailey, Vernon Norwood, Bryce Deadmon, and Rai Benjamin narrowly edged out Botswana and Great Britain for the top spot on the podium.
The Americans secured victory with an impressive time of 2:54.43, setting a new Olympic record in the process.
Intense Race
Team USA displayed a strong performance right from the start as Bailey passed the baton to Norwood, who engaged in a fierce battle with Botswana’s Busang Collen Kebinatshipi before handing off to Deadmon.
Deadmon’s explosive sprint propelled the U.S. squad into the lead, setting the stage for Benjamin to maintain their advantage against Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo.
Rai Benjamin maintained his lead over Tebogo, with both runners pushing each other towards the finish line. Ultimately, Benjamin crossed first, securing the gold medal for Team USA. Tebogo followed closely behind, while Great Britain’s Charles Dobson secured the bronze.
Historical Dominance
Notably, this victory marks the third consecutive gold medal for Team USA in the men’s 4×400-meter relay, following triumphs in the 2020 Tokyo Games and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
