Thiruvananthapuram:
Swapna Suresh Challenges Kerala CM and Daughter
After remaining out of the public eye for some time, Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the high-profile gold smuggling case, resurfaced on Thursday with a bold challenge to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter Veena Vijayan. Suresh challenged them to file a defamation case against her following her recent statements.
Defamation Case Bail
Swapna Suresh, accompanied by her legal counsel, appeared in a lower court at Taliparamba in Kannur District. They secured bail in a defamation suit filed by CPI (M) state secretary, MV Govindan.
Challenge to CM and Daughter
Upon obtaining bail, Suresh’s lawyer expressed the desire for CM Vijayan and his daughter to exhibit the same courage as Govindan and file a defamation case against Suresh based on her revelations.
Allegations and Legal Action
The defamation suit was initiated by Govindan after Suresh claimed that a person named Vijesh Pillai had threatened her in Bengaluru last year. Suresh alleged that Govindan had made threats against her if she did not withdraw her accusations against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his family.
Suresh further claimed that Govindan had suggested she accept Rs 30 crore and move to Malaysia. Govindan sought Rs 1 crore in damages in the defamation case.
Standing by Statements
“I stand by all that I said then,” asserted Suresh on Thursday, reaffirming her previous statements. Her counsel mentioned that they were challenging Govindan to take further legal action.
Insight:
Swapna Suresh’s boldness in challenging the Chief Minister and his daughter to take legal action adds another layer to the complex dynamics of the gold smuggling case. This move could potentially lead to further developments in the ongoing investigation, shedding more light on the allegations made by Suresh.
