Simone Biles solidified her legacy as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time by clinching the gold medal in the women’s vault final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking her third gold medal of the games. Biles is only the second woman in Olympic history to win the vault twice, having previously secured the top spot at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio.

Biles entered the final with the highest qualifying score of 15.800, surpassing her closest rival, Rebeca Andrade of Brazil, by over half a point.
She executed the challenging Yurchenko double pike vault with precision in her first attempt, earning a score of 15.700. Additionally, she followed it up with a slightly less complex vault, scoring 14.900, resulting in an average score of 15.300, securing her lead in the competition.
Her Team USA teammate, Jade Carey, secured the bronze medal with a score of 14.466 while Andrade claimed the silver medal with a score of 14.966.

Biles has had a remarkable start to the Paris Games, clinching gold in the women’s gymnastics all-around team final earlier in the week, surpassing Shannon Miller to become the American gymnast with the most Olympic medals, with a total of eight. Subsequently, in the women’s individual all-around, Biles dazzled with a floor exercise routine, securing her sixth gold medal.

Biles now joins Vera Casalavska of Czechoslovakia as the only women to win the vault twice, a feat achieved by Casalavska in 1964 and 1968. With 10 Olympic medals to her name, Biles is tied for the third-highest tally by a female gymnast and holds the record for the most medals in major international competitions with 40.
