Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s personal assistant Shiv Kumar was apprehended by customs officials at Delhi airport on suspicion of smuggling gold from Dubai, sources confirmed.
Shiv Prasad was intercepted on Wednesday (May 29) at Terminal 3 of IGI Airport, sources revealed.
Reports indicate that customs authorities nabbed Shiv Kumar at IGI airport while he was taking possession of gold that had been brought from Dubai by someone known to him.
The customs officials also confiscated the gold, estimated to be worth around Rs 30 lakh, and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the origin and legitimacy of the seized gold.
Upon his arrival at Delhi Airport from Dubai, Kumar was interrogated by customs officers regarding the source of the gold and the purpose of bringing it into India.
However, he failed to provide satisfactory explanations or produce the necessary documentation. Further inquiries into the incident are currently ongoing.
