Perpetua Resources (NASDAQ:PPTA) +8% pre-market Thursday after announcing that the U.S. Forest Service has completed the final environmental impact statement and is issuing a draft record of decision authorizing the Stibnite gold project in Idaho.
The company highlighted that the authorization indicates that the Stibnite project is on track to become a significant gold mine and the sole U.S. source of the critical mineral antimony.
Perpetua (PPTA) stated that the Stibnite project is projected to be one of the highest-grade open pit gold projects in the U.S., boasting 4.8 million ounces of estimated gold reserves. Additionally, it is expected to yield over 450,000 ounces of gold annually in the first four years, with all-in sustaining costs below $450 per ounce, as per a feasibility study conducted in 2020.
Furthermore, as a by-product of gold extraction, the project holds a reserve of 148 million pounds of antimony, which is a critical mineral currently not mined domestically.
Interestingly, given that China is a significant producer of global mined antimony and dominates its refinement and processing, the country has started imposing export controls on certain antimony products from September 15 onwards.

### Potential Impact on Critical Mineral Supply Chain
The authorization of the Stibnite gold project in Idaho represents a crucial development for the U.S. as it seeks to establish a domestic source of the critical mineral antimony. With China’s dominance in antimony production and the recent export controls imposed by the country, the Stibnite project could play a pivotal role in securing the U.S. supply chain for this essential mineral.
### Economic Opportunities and Job Creation
The progression of the Stibnite project not only signifies the potential for significant gold production but also presents economic opportunities for the region in terms of job creation and infrastructure development. As mining operations commence, the local economy may experience a boost, contributing to overall growth and prosperity in the area.
