Gold Mine Discovered in Odisha
In a recent development, a gold mine has been discovered in Odisha, said Steel & Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena. The discovery was made while the Geological Survey of India (GSI) was conducting an inspection for copper ore in the Adasa-Ramapalli area of Deogarh district.
Inspections and Exploration
The GSI experts have detected approximately 1,685 kg of gold ore along with copper in the Adasa area. As a result, the government is now planning to auction the gold mine block for further exploration and development.
Ongoing Surveys
The G2 level re-inspection program is currently in progress in collaboration with the Directorate of Mines and Geology to trace gold deposits in various regions of Odisha. Apart from Adasa-Ramapalli, surveys are being conducted at other sites such as Gopur-Gajipur, Mankadachuan, Saleikana, Dimirimunda, and several districts like Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Nabarngpur, Angul, Koraput, Malkangiri, Sambalpur, and Boudh.
Prospects and Future Plans
While the presence of gold deposits has been indicated in multiple areas, the government is yet to determine the quality and quantity of the gold mines. There are no immediate plans to set up a processing unit for extracting gold from ores.
It is worth noting that the discovery of a gold mine in Odisha could have significant economic implications for the state, potentially boosting revenue and creating job opportunities in the mining sector.
