The Royal Canadian Mint recently released its latest gold Maple Leaf bullion coin, which is the first to be entirely sourced from a single mine. Costco Canada members were given the exclusive opportunity to purchase the 2024 Maple Leaf Single Mine 1-ounce .9999 fine gold $50 bullion coin, sourced from Agnico Eagle’s Detour Lake mine in northern Ontario. This coin is now available at select Costco stores across Canada and on their website.
### Design and Security Features
The reverse of this single-mined gold coin features a detailed engraving of a sugar maple leaf, a signature design of the RCM’s Maple Leaf family of bullion coins. Surrounding the leaf are precisely machined radial lines, enhancing the coin’s aesthetics. Additionally, a micro-engraved maple leaf-shaped security mark with the number 24 is visible under magnification, indicating the coin’s year of issue. A privy mark featuring a hand holding a globe symbolizes the coin’s single-source origin, and it is further protected by Bullion DNA technology. The obverse of the coin features the Steven Rosati effigy of King Charles III and is encapsulated in credit card-style packaging with a certificate of purity and authenticity signed by the RCM’s chief assayer.
### Second Issue of its Kind
Ammar Al-Joundi, President and CEO of Agnico Eagle Mines, expressed pride in being a trusted source of responsibly produced gold for the Royal Canadian Mint’s single-source mined gold bullion coin. This is the second single mine gold coin produced entirely from gold sourced from an Agnico Eagle operation, with the first being from the Meliadine mine in 2022.
This collaboration between the Royal Canadian Mint and Agnico Eagle Mines highlights the importance of responsible sourcing in the gold industry and offers consumers a unique opportunity to own a piece of Canadian-mined pure gold. The strict segregation protocols and advanced security features further enhance the coin’s value and desirability among collectors and investors alike.
