AMHERST – The Project Skydrop treasure hunt for a gold trophy and a massive prize has pinpointed western Massachusetts as the current search area.
Jason Rohrer and Tom Bailey, video game developers from New Hampshire, have hidden a pure gold trophy valued at $26,000 somewhere in the woods. The individual who locates the trophy will also receive the “prize bounty,” which currently exceeds $80,000 and is composed of entry fees from participants in the hunt.
Where is the Project Skydrop trophy?
Initially, when the search commenced on Sept. 19, a map indicated that the trophy could be located within a 500-mile radius encompassing a significant portion of the northeast and areas as far south as Virginia. However, as of now, the circle has narrowed down to a mere 35-mile diameter within Massachusetts, extending from South Hadley to the Vermont border.
Towns within the designated circle in Massachusetts include Northampton, Amherst, Williamsburg, Easthampton, Deerfield, Montague, Greenfield, Ashfield, Shutesbury, Shelburne Falls, and Charlemont.
The circle will progressively shrink until it reaches a diameter of just one foot by Oct. 10, at which point the treasure’s location should be discovered.
Joining the Project Skydrop hunt
Individuals can participate in the hunt by paying a $20 fee, granting them access to daily clues presented in the form of aerial photographs that reveal more of the surrounding landscape each day. They also have the opportunity to discuss the clues in a members-only chat group.
The Project Skydrop website features a live webcam view of the trophy location and screenshots of detected motion nearby. As of now, the cameras have primarily captured squirrels and other wildlife investigating the hidden treasure.
To claim the expanding prize bounty, the victor must record a first-person video of themselves approaching the trophy and upload it to YouTube.
