Scammer Caught with Gold Bars in Martin County, Florida
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office recently uncovered a phone scam involving a 21-year-old man, Tejaskumar Bipinbhai Patel, from India who targeted an elderly resident in the area. Patel posed as a law enforcement officer, convincing the victim that there was a warrant for their arrest and soliciting $150,000 in gold bars to settle the false charges. This incident sheds light on the prevalence of phone scams and the vulnerability of older individuals to such fraud.
Arrest and Seizure of Gold Bars
Following the transaction, the victim realized they had been deceived and contacted the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) for assistance. Subsequently, when Patel demanded more gold from the victim, law enforcement intervened and apprehended him at the drop-off location. Patel was found in possession of over 100 gold bars valued at $242,000, leading to his arrest on charges of grand theft.
