Israel’s Allegations Against Hezbollah Uncovered
Hezbollah has stashed hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and gold in a bunker built under a hospital in Beirut, Israel’s military said on Monday. They clarified that they would not target the hospital but continue to attack the group’s financial assets.
The hospital director, Fadi Alameh, a Lebanese lawmaker with the Shi’ite Amal Movement party, dismissed Israel’s allegations as false and slanderous. He urged the Lebanese Army to inspect the hospital, named Al-Sahel, to prove that it only housed medical facilities, patients, and a morgue.
Alameh also mentioned that the hospital was being evacuated but assured that Israel’s military had no plans to strike the facility.
Israel’s Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari claimed that Israeli intelligence had gathered information over several years to support their claims. However, Reuters could not independently verify these details.
Notably, Hezbollah’s response to these allegations was not immediately available.
Hagari further stated in a televised address that Hezbollah’s former leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, had constructed the bunker for extended stays, containing millions of dollars in cash and gold.
He urged the Lebanese government and international organizations to prevent Hezbollah from using these funds for terrorist activities against Israel.
While monitoring the compound, Hagari confirmed that the Israeli Air Force would avoid striking the hospital itself.
Israel’s Chief of the General Staff, Herzi Halevi, informed troops in Lebanon of overnight airstrikes targeting around 30 sites linked to Al-Qard al-Hassan, Hezbollah’s alleged financial arm.
Hagari announced that additional strikes on Hezbollah’s financial infrastructure were imminent.
