Questioning the Origin of Trump’s Luxury Watches
Former President Donald Trump has ventured into selling luxury watches, but the authenticity and origin of these watches have come into question, especially with claims that they could be “Chinese-made.”
The Pricey Watches
Trump’s watches are being sold at high prices, with the most expensive model priced at $100,000, drawing criticism from experts in the watch industry.
Trump has rolled out two watch models, ‘The Fighter’ and another unnamed model, marketed as luxury timepieces. ‘The Fighter’ is priced between $499 and $799, with imitation gold accents. The second model, claimed to be an 18-karat gold watch adorned with diamonds, is the standout piece with a hefty price tag of $100,000.
Trump took to Truth Social to promote his watches as ideal Christmas gifts, calling them “truly special” and urging people to get them before they sell out.
Criticism from Experts
Experts and watch enthusiasts have not held back in critiquing Trump’s watches. Ariel Adams, founder of A Blog To Watch, described the watches as unoriginal and overpriced, suggesting that they may have been produced by a white-label company.
Adams explained that anyone can customize a watch through a white-labeler and market it under their name, leading to inflated prices. The consensus from a watch collector group is that the watches exude a Chinese-made quality and are not worth the asking price.
The Company Behind the Watches
Interestingly, TheBestWatchesOnEarth LLC is the entity behind the Trump-branded watches, not directly affiliated with Trump or his company. They obtained a license to use the Trump name for their watch line. This is not Trump’s first foray into the watch industry, as he previously launched the Donald J. Trump Signature Collection in 2005.
Despite claims of Swiss-made quality, an anonymous marketing director from a Tier1 Swiss watch brand believes that the watches are more likely of Chinese origin, further fueling doubts about the watches’ true value.
Insight: While luxury watches often hold a prestigious status and are associated with exceptional craftsmanship, the perceived value of a watch can be influenced by factors such as branding, marketing, and perceived exclusivity. The case of Trump’s watches highlights how perception and authenticity play a crucial role in the luxury watch market.
