## ACT Policing Appeal for Information on Counterfeit Gold Bullion Scam
ACT Policing is seeking information from the public regarding the recent sale of counterfeit gold bullion on social media platforms. This appeal comes after receiving three reports between 20 and 28 June 2024 about a scam involving the sale of purported gold bullion on Facebook Marketplace.
### Modus Operandi of the Scam
In all three reported cases, victims engaged with the seller through online communication and arranged to meet in various locations in the Gungahlin area for the sale. The seller presented receipts from the Perth Mint to validate the authenticity of the gold bars. However, upon further inspection, these receipts were discovered to be counterfeit.
### Discovery of Fraudulent Items
Subsequently, the victims sought independent appraisal of the gold bars, only to find out that they were either made of copper or gold-plated plastic. This highlights the sophistication of the scam and the need for caution when engaging in such transactions, especially online.
### Police Action and Suspect Identification
To address the issue, ACT Policing executed a search warrant at a Taylor residence on 7 July 2024. Counterfeit products and nearly $3000 in cash suspected to be proceeds of the crime were seized from the location. An 18-year-old man has been identified as a suspect and will face charges in court related to the fraud.
### Call for Information
ACT Policing urges anyone with information related to this scam or who may have fallen victim to it to come forward. Those with relevant information are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Anonymous tips are also welcomed, and individuals are reminded to quote reference number 7785464 when providing information.
## Additional Insight

Furthermore, collaborating with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities can contribute to the prevention and resolution of such crimes.
