PARIS — American equestrian Rebecca Hart took home the dressage gold medal riding Floratina at the Paris Paralympics on Tuesday. This victory marked a significant milestone in Hart’s career, as she had been striving for this accomplishment for 25 years and had come close multiple times.
The competition was fierce, with Britain’s Natasha Baker, a seasoned athlete with six gold medals, entering as the favorite but ultimately finishing third. The silver in Grade III, designated for athletes with severe impairments in both legs but minimal or no trunk impairment, went to the Netherlands’ Rixt van der Horst.
Reflecting on her win, Hart, 39, expressed her disbelief, stating, “To actually get it, I feel like I’m going to wake up at any moment. It’s just surreal. It feels like a dream.” This gold medal was particularly special for Hart as it marked her first individual medal ever at the Paralympics, surpassing her previous best result of a team bronze in Tokyo.
