PLUMAS COUNTY, Calif. – The Smith and Mills Fire is now recognized as the Gold Complex Fire.
The fires sparked on Monday and are burning east of Highway 89 and Whitehawk, about 70 miles east of Chico and 27 miles southeast of Quincy.
Officials say the complex has burned at least 700 acres and structures are threatened.

Road Closures
Highway 89 remains closed from County Road A-15 to Calpine.

A shelter has been opened at the Quincy High School located at 6 Quincy Junction Road in Quincy.

Animals can be taken to the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds for shelter.
