Arrest and Charges
A 43-year-old Chantilly man, Steve Taehee Ha, was arrested and charged with murder following a daytime shooting inside a Gold’s Gym in Reston.
Ha was taken into custody less than eight hours after he shot and killed Hyung Joon Choi, 31, at the gym on Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston. Choi, a resident of Reston, was shot multiple times in the upper body while working out and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Targeted Incident
Captain Kent Bailey stated during a news conference that Ha approached Choi in a targeted manner while both were exercising and shot him before fleeing the gym. The authorities believe this incident was isolated and targeted, without being a random act of violence within the gym.

Ha faces charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond. Detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
