Chennai Air Intelligence Unit has dismantled a gold smuggling syndicate that managed to smuggle 267 kilograms of gold valued at ₹167 crore in just two months.
Modus Operandi
According to a recent press release, the air intelligence officers intercepted a sales executive at the Airhub shop in the transit/departure area of Chennai’s Anna International Airport. Upon conducting a search, they discovered three bundles of gold paste concealed in the individual’s rectum. These bundles were given to him by a Sri Lankan transit passenger.
Further investigation revealed that the smugglers, operating from Sri Lanka, had leased the Airhub shop at the international departure of Anna International Airport with the help of YouTuber Sabir Ali and Vidvedaa PRG. The syndicate employed eight individuals to receive gold paste at the shop or in the airport’s restrooms from transit passengers. The recruited individuals would then conceal the gold in their rectums, allowing them to smuggle it out of the airport undetected.

It is essential for airport authorities to remain vigilant and enhance security measures to prevent such smuggling operations from taking place. Smugglers are constantly evolving their methods, making it crucial for law enforcement agencies to adapt and stay ahead of these criminal activities.
