A 70-year-old woman in north Bengaluru fell victim to a late-night robbery when a miscreant broke into her home and stole her gold chain. The incident, which took place in a multi-storey building near Bairaveshwara Circle in Sidedahalli, left the elderly woman, Manamma, injured and shaken. The break-in occurred between 12.20 am and 12.40 am, highlighting the vulnerability of those living alone, especially during the late hours of the night.
Intrusion and Robbery
The intruder managed to enter the woman’s home by unlatching the door through an open window. Upon attempting to snatch Manamma’s gold chain, she woke up and bravely confronted the thief. However, the perpetrator resorted to violence by pushing her off the cot, causing injury to her neck, before fleeing with the valuable chain worth ₹85,000. This incident not only underscores the physical danger that such break-ins pose but also the psychological trauma experienced by the victim.
Lack of Immediate Help
Despite Manamma shouting for help, her neighbors failed to respond in time to prevent the robbery. It wasn’t until after the thief had fled the scene on a two-wheeler parked nearby that assistance arrived. The criminal’s tactic of latching the doors of other houses in the building to inhibit interference further emphasizes the need for vigilance and community watch programs in residential areas.
Ongoing Investigation and Preventive Measures
Police are actively investigating the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 309(4) on charges of robbery. While a CCTV camera captured the suspect’s movements, the footage remains unclear, necessitating continued efforts to apprehend the culprit. This incident serves as a reminder for residents to secure their homes properly, install surveillance systems, and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement promptly.
Insight into Burglary Techniques
The recent arrest of a burglar known as “Parivala Manja” in Bengaluru sheds light on the unique methods criminals employ to target homes. By using pigeons as a signaling tool, the suspect, identified as Manjunath, would scout for potential targets in multi-storeyed buildings without security personnel. This unconventional approach highlights the need for homeowners to be vigilant and implement effective security measures to safeguard their property and loved ones.
