PARIS (Gray News) – United States wrestler Amit Elor clinched the gold in the 68-kilogram women’s freestyle final at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, making history as the youngest American, male or female, to achieve an Olympic gold in wrestling.

In a fiercely contested match, Elor emerged victorious with a 3-0 win over Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova, showcasing her exceptional skills and determination. Elor expressed her disbelief at her triumph, stating, “This has been my dream for my whole entire life. I just can’t comprehend it.”

Elor’s victory was sealed in the first half of the bout with a 2-point takedown and an additional point gained due to a penalty on Zhumanazarova. She maintained control throughout the second half, preventing her opponent from scoring any points.

### Youthful Triumph

Elor, at just 20 years old, stunned the No. 1 seed, Turkey’s Tosun Cavusoglu, in her Olympic debut match. Her journey to the final included victories over Poland’s Wiktoria Choluj and North Korea’s Pak Sol-gum, solidifying her place as a formidable competitor.

Elor now joins a select group of American women wrestlers who have claimed gold medals, further cementing her status as a rising star in the sport.

Reflecting on her achievement, Elor shared, “I’ve received so many messages, especially from younger girls out there telling me I’m their inspiration. And first off, it’s just hard to believe because it feels just yesterday that I was one of them, looking up to our veterans and our legends in the sport.”

### Trailblazing Athletes

In the realm of women’s wrestling, Elor’s victory adds to the legacy of American champions. Helen Maroulis paved the way with a gold medal in the 53kg category at the 2016 Rio Olympics, while Tamyra Mensah Stock claimed gold in the 68kg class at the Tokyo Olympics.

Maroulis, set to compete in the 57kg division, aims to become the first U.S. woman to win two gold medals in wrestling and secure three Olympic medals as she pursues success on Thursday.

Joining the ranks of elite wrestlers, fellow American Sarah Ann Hildebrandt earned her spot in the final of the 50kg weight class after defeating Mongolia’s Otgonjargal Dologorjav. She is poised to contend for gold against India’s Vinesh Vinesh on Wednesday, showcasing the depth of talent in American women’s wrestling.

### Insight: Rising Talent and International Competition
Amit Elor’s remarkable achievement at a young age showcases the depth of talent and determination in the American wrestling community. Her success not only inspires the next generation of wrestlers but also highlights the fierce competition and camaraderie present in international wrestling events. As athletes like Elor, Maroulis, Mensah Stock, and Hildebrandt continue to excel on the global stage, they solidify the United States’ position as a dominant force in women’s wrestling, setting new standards of excellence and sportsmanship.
