Police in Cambridgeshire have released CCTV footage of two individuals believed to have stolen valuable Bronze Age gold artefacts from Ely Museum. The stolen items, a golden torc and a gold bracelet, are estimated to date back approximately 3,000 years.
The video captures the suspects, dressed in hooded tops, entering the museum through a window in the early hours of Tuesday, 7 May. In further footage, the individuals can be seen hastily moving past the camera, with one carrying what appears to be a rucksack.
Authorities are now appealing for information regarding two individuals who were spotted near the museum riding e-scooters around the time of the theft.
Importance of Preserving Historical Artefacts
The theft of these priceless artefacts serves as a stark reminder of the importance of preserving our history and heritage. Once stolen, these items may never be recovered, depriving future generations of the opportunity to learn from and appreciate our past.
It is crucial for museums and other cultural institutions to ensure the security of their collections, as they play a vital role in safeguarding our collective history.
