Five passengers arriving from Dubai were intercepted by officers of the Air Intelligence Unit based on intelligence from the Chennai zonal unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on June 6. Upon searching the passengers, authorities discovered six high-purity gold chains, 10 bundles of gold paste, and seven solid gold ingots, totaling a weight of 6.168kg. The estimated value of the confiscated gold is ₹3.91 crore.
Legal Action Taken
The gold was seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, and all five passengers were subsequently arrested. Investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
